ZEB - Strategic research centre on zero emission buildings
The building sector is identified as providing the largest potential for CO2 reduction by 2020. It is the hypothesis that through the development of new integrated low energy building solutions and technologies entirely based on extensive energy savings and renewable energy supply that competitive zero energy building solutions can be developed. Based on the rapid development in materials science, information and sensor technology, which offers considerable opportunities for development of new intelligent building components, the research centre will in cooperation with the industry develop zero energy buildings and related technologies and systems that create the necessary basis for a long-term sustainable development in the building sector. n this respect a very important issue is the identification of the optimal balance between energy savings and renewable energy supply and between implementation of renewable energy systems in the individual buildings and in the energy supply system as well as the optimal interaction between net zero energy buildings and the surrounding energy supply grids. The work of the centre will thus form an important contribution towards more independence of fossil fuels, better security of energy supplies and reduction of CO2 emissions.
