Smart Building Controle of Indoor Climate

During the project there will be developed models, that combines energy efficient perfomance of the indoor climate for three buildings and fitted the electricity spot market's variable prices for the perfomance strategy can creates the lowest electricity bill. The model can support the effort for implement the building stock potential for flexible consumption in smart grid solutions.

The project concludes that the experience of finding suitable buildings show that flexibility in electricity consumption must be considered in the design phase of new constructions, since this is the easiest and cheapest to introduce necessary measurements and automation.
Project description

Based on previous results from two ELFORSK projects about energy efficient controle of indoor climate (339-032) and energy correct building automization (340-004) and the ongoing EU project TWENTIES will there in this project be developed models that combines energy efficient perfomance of the indoor climate for three buildings and fitted the electricity spot market's variable prices for the perfomance strategy can creates the lowest electricity bill. New knowledge will be implemented and practiacal experience about indoor climate allowances and buildings ability for storage extra energy. The model can support the effort for implement the building stock potential for flexible consumption in smart grid solutions.

Results
The project concludes that the experience of finding suitable buildings show that flexibility in electricity consumption must be considered in the design phase of new constructions, since this is the easiest and cheapest to introduce necessary measurements and automation. In the light of the requirements of the project, Siemens has developed a list of general conditions for the implementation of projects with flexible electricity consumption in a building:
  • Active and engaged operations department
  • Mechanically ventilated building with overcapacity in refrigeration
  • Secondary meters with instant measurements on plants
  • Building Automation - measurements of electricity in different zones
  • Server environment for building management systems with external access from the Internet
  • Support from management and IT department
  • Access to weather data - preferably measured locally by the building's own weather station
Big parts of the project's challenges has been to ensure that the buildings to be included in the project were equipped with the necessary gauges. Secondary meters, both in electricity, heating and cooling should be installed as a natural part of new construction, so that the buildings are prepared for future delivery of flexibility to support the grid with increased levels of renewable energy.
