Project description
On the basis ofmeasurementsin a small numberof representativemilk producersassessedoptimizationpotential byincludingto adjust thesystem, installfrequencycontrol refrigerationcompressor anduseheat exchangers forhot water productionand duringcooling of therefrigerant. In addition, the development of amanagementto ensureoptimalconcurrencybetweencold and heatneeds andorganizing the operationsby pricefluctuations inthe electricity market. In addition, developeda heat exchangerthat is moreresistant tocalcification. The newly developedsystemformilkcoolingwillbe especially suitable forfarms withautomatic milkingsystems(AMS),which is widespread inDenmark, andtheenergy requirement formilkcoolingis relatively high.It is estimated thatthe new systemcan save abouthalf of themilk producersof energy formilkcooling, equivalent to more than40GWh/year.
Results
Based on pilot studies it can be concluded that there are significant savings to be gained by optimizing the installation and operation of combined installations for heating and cooling milk. It will be possible to find savings in order of 10 to 15 % of the farms electricity consumption. There can be expected variations in the savings due to variation in specific electricity consumption for individual farms. A small part of the farm wil be able to achieve significantly higher savings.
The variety of solutions for milk cooling of milk producers has given significant complexity to the project but there are many areas for energy optimiziation at the milk producers.
