MegaDrive - fuel cells for large material handling vehicles

MegaDrive has developed a fuel cell systems for large material handling vehicles. For material handling actual system designs has been developed and laboratory-testes confirm the reach of targets. Theoretical modeling and designs for 100kW+
systems have been developed.

Project description

MegaDrive is to develop and test a laboratory prototype fuel cell system with the aim of increased power delivery from and up to 30 kW in order to enable use in larger material handling vehicles, such as forklifts. Theoretical modeling and design of a future concept for fuel cell systems from 100 kW and more is also to be conducted, with the aim to enable use in even larger material handling vehicles. The project is managed by H2 Logic A/S that will use the project to further develop its H2Drive(R) fuel cell system for material handling vehicles. EnergiMidt will participate with the aim to contribute to the 100 kW+ fuel cell activities and learn about the future opportunities for use of fuel cells. DTU and AAU will participate as research organizations involved in the various development activities. DTU will focus on the hybrid efforts and AAU on modeling of the 100 kW+ fuel cell system.

Results

MegaDrive has developed and tested an upgraded 10-15kW fuel cell system in a laboratory where the average power supply has been increased significantly.  This allows use of fuel cells in big vehicle and in “heavy-duty” applications. Theoretic modelling and design of future concepts for fuel cells up to 100kW+ has also been carried out with the goal of making the use of fuel cell possible in even bigger vehicles. Furthermore there’s made an analysis of different technologies for storage of hydrogen.
