WS.PowerRecover

A considerable amount of power is used for pressurizing industrial processes such as fermentation processes. This project is aiming of recover power in an economical attractive way by utilizing the pressure to run a high speed expander with an associated generator.
Project description
There are currently a number of pressurized industrial processes where the offgasses are simply discharged to atmospheric pressure through valves.Weel & Sandvig has recently developed and demonstrated a concept for realizing this pressure for power production based on modified standard high speed components. The concept has been used and validated in a pilot project with Novozymes. There are, however, issues that needs to be addressed further. The core of the developed concept is to use highly efficient standard high speed expanders to utilize the pressure from the processes. Using standard equipment it is possible to build highly cost efficient units with high efficiencies. In the project the current design will be optimized and specific consideration will be on corrosion problems, optimal selection of components and efficient control strategy. The output of the project will be a final design of a full scale prototype that will subsequently be tested in industry.
