Project description
The purpose of this project is to demonstrate and optimize the design of a 5 kW grid connected wave energy LOPF (Lever Operated Pivoting Float) buoy, through a design study and subsequent test in the sea, that will verify the power curve and general performance in Nissum Bredning and Hanstholm, respectively, - even when exposed to the full power of the North Sea during storms. The purpose is also to learn in small scale the critical factors that will allow survival during extreme waves, even though the 5 kW LOPF buoy is only a small scale unit compared to the wave heights in the North Sea.The LOPF buoy will be fully instrumented so all relevant physical parameters can be logged during operation in real time. The power conversion from the incoming waves to mechanical power and subsequent to electric power will be measured.
