Plug’n’ play facade with integrated PV-panels

The project concerns the development and demonstration of intelligent, cost-effective façade units with built-in solar cells and solar screens. Everything is made pre-fab and will be built modular and put together without cabling, but built-in he/she connector. Chance of charging the battery as energy source for solar.

The project addresses development and demonstration of intelligent, cost-effective self facadeunits with integrated solar cells and solar screens. Everything is made pre-fab and will Modularity and put together without cabling, but with their invitation.
Project description

The project Plug’n’ play will develop and demonstrate a product that is easily and elegantly designed to be used in facades in combination with existing products. Thus, there will be developed a product that is expected to reduce the installation cost of solar cells, with fewer additional costs while being an active energy-producing building component. This product will make use of pre-fabrication and modularity so that it could become an interesting product for future façade constructions. The wok program consists of a knowledge collection followed by an outline of solutions. Here it is an important task to secure good interaction with the other modules and the interaction with the combined battery powered blinds. Also the connection detail for the connectors needs a thorough development and analysis. There will be made a test panel which will be installed in “EnergyFlexOffice” (EFO) at the Technological Institute in Taastrup. EFO is a laboratory made with the purpose of testing new building components in the façade. HS Hansen is currently participating in a competition for SAS hotel in Copenhagen and if the outcome of the project turns out well then it could be interesting to use the product in that project.

Results

The project objective was to develop and demonstrate intelligent, cost-effective individual façade units with integrated solar cells and solar screens. Everything should be prefabricated and have the ability to be mounted in a modular fashion, being connected without cabling, but with built-in male / female connectors. The solar cells should be able to charge the battery
that acts as a power source for the solar screens.
The project result is a facade concept in which the solar cell and inverter is installed in a prefabricated facade element. This element can be mounted in the same way as the surrounding elements. After mounting the façade element, the solar cell is connected to an electrical system installed in the building. We have managed to make a realizable and economical prefabricated facade element with solar cells that have a mounting method with "Plug'n'play" character.
