The purpose is to develop a low-cost, high performance BIPV solution that can be tailored to unique site requirements, with focus on multi-story buildings in cities. A supplementing business model will be developed to ensure customer acquisition as well as creating services for stakeholders in the value chain enabling and strengthening the market.

Project description

The aim of this project is to address the large potential for integration of solar energy in multi-storey buildings in urban environment, using Copenhagen Municipality as area for demonstrating new innovative and cost efficient solutions. The solution will offer building owners 1) overview of building type PV-potential – aesthetics, economy, multifunctionality and integrateability, thereby enabling a better basis for decision on investment in PV, 2) a cheaper and more cost-efficient PV-system solution due to reduced balance-of-system costs and a targeted business model for the specific building owner segment – housing association, office building or public buildings, thereby enabling a higher degree of customization and/or investment. The market for BIPV in Denmark has been characterized by a limited number of scalable system-solutions and few unique custom made solutions. Several factors have acted as barriers to a large scale adoption and use of BIPV solutions. These include higher production and system price compared to standard-solutions, difficulty in integrating with existing building materials, lack of information and tools targeted at helping architects and engineers in convincing property developers or building owners to invest in BIPV.
