Roll-to-roIl-production of low-cost concentrated solar power plants
Heliac has invented and patented a foil that enables a reduction installation costs of solar fields from 500$⁄m2 to 2- 10$⁄m2 and reduce the overall cost by 80%. Proof-of-concept in lab scale was achieved in early 2014 and Heliac and the world leading concentrated solar power company, Aalborg CSP, now need to demonstrate over a 2-year period.
Vision: Heliac will introduce a novel way for collecting solar irradiation, to be used in concentrated solar power plants.
The common vision of the project will be to adapt novel state-of-the-art technologies to the field of concentrated solar power plant. The common vision of the project will be to adapt novel state-of-the-art technologies to the field of concentrated solar power (CSP), with the goal of reducing the cost of heat or electricity to a level competitive to fossil fuels without state subsidies. This will be obtained through the use of micro-and nanostructured concentrator foils made by low cost industrial processes.
Objective: The objective is to reduce the cost of solar field by 80% in 2-3 years. This will be done through two main technological efforts; to replace heavy and expensive glass mirror technology with light and inexpensive micro-and nanostructured solar concentrating foils thereby decreasing the cost and complexity of the solar field greatly, and implementing a novel solar receiver not requiring vacuum tubing thereby increasing the durability and reducing maintenance of the CSP installation.
Besides the lower cost, the solution features many other advantages, such as unlimited size scaling, edge of-field operation, easy ZU focusing, easier protection/cleaning, much lower weight and greatly Simplified logistics during installation and maintenance.
