CleanTechBlock 2
The vision of this project is to develop and document a wall solution which suits the building regulation of year 2020 and at the same time presents an aesthetic attractive wall with long lifetime. The idea is to build houses with prefabricated wall components consisting of insulating foam glass sandwiched between clay bricks. The wall solution is entirely water and wind impermeable and fire resistant.
We aim to develop a new energy efficient wall solution to meet new construction standards. The wall solution consists of smaller block units, which comprises foam glass sandwiched between two clay bricks. This wall unit is called CleanTechBlock (CTB). The block is aimed to fill in the market for house construction.
The overall goal is achieved through several activities:
1) Insulation ability of foam glass will be improved and scaled up from laboratory to pilot scale production to assess the technical and economic feasibility for industrial production.
2) The CTB block requires a new large size format. Large clay bricks are challenging to produce and the production needs to be optimised regarding shape quality.
3) The mechanical- and thermal properties of wall mock-ups and real size house will be measured to validate the construction design. The construction technique and speed is evaluated during the building process. The real size house is show cased to gain feedback from end users.
The final task summarises all the work into a business plan for the CTB. It will show if CTB is commercially interesting.
