MeGa-stoRE 2 phase 2
The project will develop a technology capable of upgrading biogas to the quality of natural gas by using wind power and thus create a connection between the electricity grid and the gas grid. In order to upgrade the biogas, hydrogen is necessary and can be produced from wind power. In this way it will be possible to become independent from a fossil gas supply, and it will be possible to have a production of synthetic gas of equal quality. Synthetic gas can be used in the transport sector, where the challenge is how to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy.
The project will develop a method capable of using the CO2 in the biogas, and at the same time increasing the production of gas up to 54%. This way, the CO2-content of the biogas can be converted to methane by means of hydrogen produced from wind power. The method will reduce the CO2 emissions and increase the benefits from biomass, which will be a valuable and scarce resource in the future.
The method for upgrading biogas is applicable to biogas produced from waste products such as straw, sludge and manure.
