Tool for optimization of system in motor driven systems - update and further development

There are considerable energy saving potentials by sizing the electric motor driven systems right from the start (right choice and composition of components) and later be careful with the operation. In The Big Blue for system optimization, the total potential is amounted to 1.200 GWh or 19% of current power consumption for motor driven systems in the industry or 15% of the current power consumption in the industry.
Motor System Tool is updated and in this project a development of the application calculator to include compressors for air & refrigeration and hydraulic pumps have been made.
Project description

The project will develop and optimize the tool for system optimization, developed in

PSO projects no. 341-014 "Tools for system optimization" in spring 2011 and the project no. 344-008 "2. Generation tool for system optimization "at the end of 2013.

Since the first publication in 2011, the tool have shown an ongoing need for updates and further developments due to technological developments within motor systems, but also to make the tool more user-friendly by readily available printing options and comparable reports, which can be easily imported into other reporting tools.

In this proposal for “The Motor Systems Tool” the following updates will be made:

  • Customizing the tool for the future regulation of the Ecodesign on electrical motors (640/2009) which is expected to take effect in January 2018

  • Inclusion of existing and future Ecodesign regulation on pumps and fans

  • Implementation of new motor technologies including electronically commutated motors (EC motors) and synchronous reluctance motors

  • Development of the application calculator to include compressors for air & refrigeration and hydraulic pumps

  • Improvement of functionalities in the tool, including print options, save as pdf, result reports and export to other reporting tools.

A further development of the energy calculator which is now represented by a simple pre-and post-graph
Results

The project has developed and optimized the existing tool for system optimization.

Since the first publication in 2011, the tool has shown an ongoing need for updates and further developments due to technological developments within motor systems, but also to make the tool more user-friendly by readily available printing options and comparable reports, which can be easily imported into other reporting tools.

In this project a development of the application calculator to include compressors for air & refrigeration and hydraulic pumps have been made.

An implementation of the relatively new motor technology called synchronous reluctance motor has also been made.
The tool has been customized for the future regulation of the Ecodesign on electrical motors (640/2009).
It includes existing and future Ecodesign regulation on pumps and fans

Last improvements of functionalities in the tool, including print options, save as pdf, result reports and export to other reporting tools have been made.
