COBRA DRIVE

Research & Development
COBRA Drive has the purpose to advance the Reformed Methanol Fuel cell technology to a level where it can replace diesel engines in Light Commercial Vehicles.
Project description

COBRA DRIVE will develop a Reformed Methanol fuel cell (RMFC) mobility platform based on

High Temperature PEM fuel cell technology that will enable a replacement of combustion

engines in applications where a pure battery electric vehicle is not feasible. The RMFC platform

will enable a cost efficient range extender to a hybrid vehicle with zero harmful emissions, fast

refuelling, cheap and easy fuel supply.

The goal of the project is to reach a TRL 9 for mobility application and a 2000 EUR/kW sales

price plus a 10.000 operational life on system level. This will enable a commercial entry to the

mobility market with focus on Light commercial vehicles.

The project will focus on Component development, especially the Electrode, membrane and

bipolar flow plates as this is the main cost driver – furthermore the project will focus on system

development as this is the enabler for long lifetime and market requirement fulfilment.
