Feasibility study of Danish-US cooperation about fuel cells
The partnership for hydrogen and fuel cells had to purposes with this project: Partly to establish formal cooperation opportunities and contacts in USA and partly to get specific and available knowledge about the American stakeholders, law, founding opportunities, network etc. In the beginning of the project the partnership contacted the American Breaktrough Technologies Institute (BTI) which works as a nonprofit consultant for the fuel cell business. With base in Washington and close contact to the Department of Energy (DoE) and a wide network in the business including the American government, the BTI has been a very good partnership. The project has had two workshops in Copenhagen and both times there have been participants from BTI, whom also visited several Danish companies. In the future BTI will be communicating contact between Danish and American actors within the bilateral level. As a starting point for the project, there was developed a statement of collaboration between DoE and the Danish energy agency. To reach the second purpose of the project there has been prepared a comprehensive rapport, which partly describes line of topics on a federal level and partly has a detailed description of the six Landers, whom in some sense are home places for activities involving hydrogen and fuel cells. It is possible to get a look at the elements of the rapport by topic and geographic search. The electronic platform is expected to be available in the spring of 2012.
This project has provided an overview and assessment of the major US federal and state programs and policies related to fuel cells and hydrogen. This include a review of current and anticipated policies and incentives that encourage investment in fuel cells, such as research and development programs, renewable energy portfolio requirements and similar regulatory concessions, grants, financial incentives and tax policies.
Requirements and restrictions related to companies outside of the United States participating in US programs are identified.
A web-based information portal for Danish stakeholders that summarizes all this information was developed and can be found at the homepage of the Partnership, www.hydrogennet.dk/dan-am.
