Electricity efficient, passive climatizing of future office buildings - Pre-project

Institut for Byggeri, By og Miljø

This project is a preliminary study where international experience and knowledge about passive air conditioning of buidlings are collected. Typical danish office buildings is analysed to identify the energy-saving potential through passive technology. The experiences gained can be used in a demonstration project.

Results

The purpose with the calculations in Be06 was to estimate the best cooling potential for different cooling strategies.

By the calculations in Be06 the best cooling strategy was natural ventilation, but the control calculation where the parameters from Be06 were implemented in BSim is was shown that the quantitative efficiency was exaggerated. The results from the implementation of solar screening as cooling strategy did not give the same results in BSim and Be06, but the tendency was the same.

In both BSim examples it is shown that the quantitative cooling potential with ventilation during worktime is limited. Specially the forced ventilation during worktime is a unfavourable cooling strategy because the enhancement of energy in operating the ventilation is almost the same as the reduction of cooling need.
