The main purpose of the SOFTEG phase II project is to develop a high efficient TEG based on the TE material Zn4Sb3. The TEG will be integrated and tested in a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) micro Combined Heat & Power system with the goal to increase the total system electrical efficiency by more than 8% utilizing the system waste heat.
Project description

The main purpose of the SOFTEG phase II project is to develop a high efficient TEG based on the TE material Zn4Sb3. The TEG will be integrated and tested in a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) micro Combined Heat & Power system with the goal to increase the total system electrical efficiency by more than 8% utilizing the system waste heat.

Results

This project demonstrates that a combined SOFC and TEG system (Dual Engine) system can utilize the waste heat in a SOFC system and make the system more efficient. The TEG system is based on a novel high temperature material (zinkantimonid). The integrated TEG system can be used as a separate micro-cogeneration system fuelled by natural gas.
