Energy efficient handling of moisture in the building process

The project aim is to create the conditions to achieve energy savings of almost 286 GWh per year equalling around 50 % of the total energy consumption off drying-out Danish building sites.

The Objectives of the project was to enable energy savings at the Danish construction sites in connection to drying of building structures in the cinstruction process. The objective would be achieved by developing and document energy efficient drying technologies for use on construction sites and incorporate the project results in a web-based calculation tool.
Project description

The project aim is to create the conditions to achieve energy savings of almost 286 GWh per year equalling around 50 % of the total energy consumption off drying-out Danish building sites.

The achievement of the goal is by developing and show energy efficient drying-out technologies for application on building sites and incorporate the results in a web-based calculating tool. The web application have to be used in the project engineering and execution phase for optimal handling of the moisture in the building process. This combined with after education af the advisors and the operating people gives an essential opportunity in the future to minimising the energy consumption on the building sites significantly.

The primarly target group is advisors and entreprenuers and the communication to the target group is by etablishing a working group consisting of members from Byggeriets Innovation Network 'InnoBYG'.

Results

The Objectives of the project was to enable energy savings at the Danish construction sites in connection to drying of building structures in the cinstruction process. The objective would be achieved by developing and document energy efficient drying technologies for use on construction sites and incorporate the project results in a web-based calculation tool.

A new drying method was developed. The method is based on heating cables that heats the humid construction and permable insulation to reduce heat losses. This method was demonstrated in connection to two refurbishment projects and it showed interesting perspectives for accelerated dyring techniques. In addition thorough air change measurements at the construction site in Copenhagen were conducted giving valuable information for the project.

the main result from the project was the web-based (and as an App) tool to estimate time and energy consumption in connection to drying of building structures in the building process. The tool highlights the good choices and inappropriate choices made in the process in order to create a greater understanding of the impact relative to energy consumption.

The primarly target group is advisors and entreprenuers and the communication to the target group is by etablishing a working group consisting of members from Byggeriets Innovation Network 'InnoBYG'.
