Radar Controlled Obstruction Lights at the National Test Center in Oesterild

The project objective is to test, verify and document the radar control installation aiming at defining the minimum requirements for this type of system capability. The project will also investigate the social effects of introducing Radar Control of Wind Farm Obstruction Lights by carrying in out communit evaluations.

Project description
The project is a cooperation between Terma A/ S, DTU Wind Energy and Aalborg University. The project will demonstrate application of Radar controlled Obstruction Lights at the National Test Center at Oesterild. The project objective is to test, verify and document the radar control installation aiming at defining minimum requirements for this type of system capability -leading
towards generic recommendations. The project will investigate the social effects of introducing Radar Control of Wind Farm Obstruction Lights by carrying out community evaluations assessing the nature of the existing nuisance effects on the local community and evaluate whether the system mitigates light pollution cast from the towers with high intensity lights.
The project results in relation to the system requirements and the generic recommendations will be disseminated towards the relevant project stakeholders. A part from that, web pages, newsletters and articles will be used to publicize the non-proprietary aspects of the project towards identified marketing channels.
The project will contribute to the Danish energy policy goals by providing a proven solution that is wind turbine vendor independent, and as such, can be offered to both new and existing wind farms worldwide.
