Parker

Electrical Engineering
The Parker project seeks to prove that series-produced electric vehicles, as part of an operational fleet, can support the Danish power system through power and energy services.  The organizations DTU, NUVVE and INSERO are cooperating with a large car OEM (Nissan) and a Danish fleet owner (Frederiksberg Forsyning) in this pilot project.
Project description
The Parker project seeks to prove that series-produced electric vehicles, as part of an operational fleet, can support the Danish power system through power and energy services.
A service in this context is when the timing, size or direction of power and energy exchanged between the grid and EV battery is changes as to provide a technical or economic benefit for owner, system or society.
This includes the support of LV grid operation, the Danish integration of renewables and frequency regulation.
Previous projects, such as EDISON and Nikola, have thoroughly investigated the potential that electric vehicles (EVs) have in providing such services.
As a next step, these learnings can be applied to an up-scaled pilot project. This will bridge the knowledge gained by previous research efforts with contemporary EV deployment.
The novelty of the project lies in:
- The use of series-produced vehicles and charging spots to demonstrate advanced smart grid services including V2G.
- In the aim to reconcile real-world user needs and requirements with the vehicles support of the power system.
- In validating that the vehicles can be vertically integrated in the power system i.e. Support network operation from the distribution grid to the market.
