PV+Storage – Operation and Economics

The ever decreasing cost of PV and battery technology enhances the competitiveness of both technologies in the future renewable energy based system. The adoption of such system has been so rapid that several technical and market issues remain unresolved. The project therefore has set out to study and improve the performance of the current technology, as well as the impact on the electricity grid and retailing.
Project description

The ever decreasing cost of PV and battery technology enhances the competitiveness of both technologies in the future renewable-based energy system. A recent market perspective report predicts that there will be a rapid pace of adoption in the next coming years for the two technologies. Industry has led the trend and developed various storage solutions for customers, especially residential households.

However, the development has been so fast that several key issues remain unresolved. The technical requirements for storage units are not yet defined. The impact on the current business of distribution grid operators and electricity retailers is also unknown.

During the project, the impact of PV+storage will be studied from a technical and economic viewpoint for both grid operators and market retailers. Also, the interoperability and efficiency of PV+storage system will be enhanced for better operational and market value.

The project consortium is formed by Technical University of Denmark, Aalborg University, Dansk Energi, LeanEco, and Integrate.
