PreHeat

The purpose of this development project is to demonstrate the technology for a novel state of the art space-heating concept. Recent research has demonstrated that existing residential buildings can be utilized as thermal “batteries” to balance future energy systems based on renewable energy production. The technology combines a novel control algorithm developed by AU with existing clamp-on sensors and a software platform developed by ReMoni, and on-market third party radiator thermostats.
Project description

The purpose is to demonstrate a novel space-heating technology that improves state of the art by utilizing residential buildings as thermal “batteries” to improve the efficiency of district heating. The project develops and demonstrates a robust and easy-to-install technology that combines a control algorithm developed by AU with existing ReMoni clamp-on sensors, ReMoni IoT platform and third party radiator thermostats.

The main development activities of the project are to further develop the IoT platform and customize the control algorithm to match the need of AffaldVarme Aarhus and to demonstrate the performance and robustness of the new technology in two case buildings.

The aim is to reach TRL 6 at the end of the project and then to conduct a subsequent large-scale demonstration project that takes the developed technology to TRL 7-8, aiming at a market launch (TRL 9).

The technology can reduce large investments in district heating and operational costs worth millions of Danish kroner.
