Energy renovation with PVT, Snart Grid control and energy storage

The objective of this project is to develop and demonstrate a combined energy renovation of a public building which integrates SAMRT GRD / SMART ENERGY and energy storage. By implementing the solution in a renovation project the project will harvest concrete results with this combined solution. These experiences important to the future development for the “Flexible Energy system of Denmark”

Project description

In this project a swimming hall is energy renovated. One of the components of this renovation is the installation of so called PVT-elements (PVT: a combined solar cell: PV and a thermal solar collector). When the PVT-elements produce electricity this can be used to run a heat-pump that cools the thermal part of the PVT-element and delivers heat to one of several heat storages in the swimming hall – either one of the basins or the hot water tanks for the hot water (for showers) system. The heat can also be delivered to the district heating network. The electricity can also be sent to the grid. By implementing an intelligent control of the heat-pump in relation to electricity production, electricity prices and dynamic demands and storage capacities one can get the best possible total energy performance from the system and concrete experiences with this SMART GRID / SMART ENERGY system harvested.

The project focuses on the combination of the individual components into one solution and develops the required new control algorithms to obtain the best possible control in relation to the electricity grid, district heating network, current needs and the storage capabilities for as well heating as electricity for the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) that is to control the building.
